University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto thanked the Governor and General Assembly last week for their support of the university’s 275 million dollar bond finance to build and renovate facilities on campus.
The bonds will be used for a 110 million dollar renovation to Nutter Training Facility and Commonwealth Stadium, a 263,000 square foot Academic and Science Building, and an expansion of the Gatton College of Business and Economics. UK will pay for all of these projects it’s self but requires the state’s approval for the bond issue.
President Capilouto says the new luxury suites, club seating and a multi-purpose recruiting room at Commonwealth Stadium will be paid for by revenues from the luxury suites for which they already have a waiting list. The Academic and Science Building will be paid for by the growing revenues associated with the school’s successful athletics program and private fund-raising. And private funds will help to pay for the expansion of Gatton College.
Capilouto says these buildings will enhance their ability to serve students and embolden the efforts of the faculty and staff in their efforts to teach, conduct groundbreaking research and serve.
