Funding Cut To Affect Clinics

State officials say federal Medicaid funding is being cut for more than half of the primary care clinics in Kentucky. Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Audrey Tayse Haynes says the 60-million dollar cut will affect a total of 155 clinics.

The cuts are a result of a decision by the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide supplemental funding only to facilities that have attained a special certification. Haynes added that a total of 273 primary care clinics participate in the program, and only 118 of those have the certification.

The clinics that are currently without certification can apply, but a decision on the application could take as long as 120 days.
