Mystery Shopper Scam In Hopkinsville

Hopkinsville Police are warning area residents to be aware of a scam being perpetrated in the area involving a substantial amount of money. Reports say a Hopkinsville resident applied for a job opening for a survey position. He was accepted and sent a cashiers check for 1900-dollars and given his first assignments of evaluating customer service at Walmart and Western Union.

To evaluate Western Union's service sending money out of the country the victim was told to send a check to the Philippines. Once the money was sent, the victim was contacted by his bank about his account being overdrawn. He was told that the original check he received was invalid.

The victim told police that his contact used the name Harley Wills and worked for the mystery shopper company Gapbuster. Police recommend never sending money to people you do not know and if you encounter a similar situation to let the authorities know immediately.
