The City of Cadiz has a new police chief after Chad Grace was sworn in at Tuesday night's City Council meeting. Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander administered the oath of office to Chad Grace, the man who will replace Alexander as the city's Chief of Police. Grace has been with the Cadiz Police Department since April 2006 and worked in the Christian and Todd County sheriff's offices before that. Alexander was recently appointed as Judge Executive by Governor Steve Beshear to serve out the unexpired term previously held by First District State Senator Stan Humphries.
Other appointments by the City Council include Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission members Deepak Patel, John Jordan, Greg Batts, Ricky Turner, Denise Alexander and Lisa Rogers.
In other business, the Council heard from Trigg County Hospital's CEO, Alisa Coleman, about the hospital's progress in the past year. Two of the biggest initiatives include the completion of the digital mammography unit and renovations to the former Cadiz Methodist Church building on Main Street to create the Trigg County Health and Wellness Center . The building will house an expanded primary care facility and the hospital's rehabilition center. Coleman also says the hospital operated in the black in the past year, despite phased-in health care reform changes. Coleman says the full impact of the Affordable Care Act is uncertain as providers struggle to meet some of the new requirements.
Coleman says the hospital has been recruiting new providers - both primary care and specialty care services. She says the facility is also ahead of schedule in regards to a government mandate that hospital's utilize electronic patient information by 2014. Electronic data is not only more efficient, but also safer for patients.
