Hopkinsville Police Identify Shooter In Hillaire Drive Shooting

Hopkinsville Police have released the identity of the shooter responsible for the Hillaire Drive murder-suicide Saturday morning. Public Information Officer Paul Ray says, through their investigation, detectives have determined who was responsible for the shooting.

The family lived at 309 Hillaire Drive located near the intersection with Old Clarksville Pike in the Givens Addition. Officials say Tommie and Linda Summers were both dead when they arrived, with Brian Summers suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police were called to the scene after the shooting was discovered by one of the couple's other son Kenneth. Emergency personnel originally called Air Evac to transport Brian to Vanderbilt, but later decided to take him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he passed away.Reports from the scene indicated there was some initial concern about an active shooter, but once police were able to get inside the home, that was apparently no longer a concern. Christian County Coroner Doris Lamb was on the scene through the morning and afteroon hours.

Reports by a Nashville television indicate Tommie Summers brother told them off camera that his father could have carried out the shooting because he felt there would be no one take care of his wife and son if he passed away. His wife Linda was reportedly suffering from dementia, with his son Brian also suffering from a mental illness.

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville Police continue to investigate a shooting that occurred at a Howell Street residence on the city's east side. Police identified the victim as 20-year old Alicia Jackson, of 725 Howell Street. The HPD report said police were called to the residence around 3:30pm by a person reported to be the victim's sister. They found the body of Jackson inside the residence.

Although the police report said there were no suspects in the homicide, police took a person from a West Seventh Street home to the police department around 5pm that day for questioning.

The News Edge will have more details as they become available.
