56th Circuit Commonwealth's Attorney G L Ovey says once a case is turned over to him, he is in charge of overseeing the investigation.
While he would not comment specifically about a motion he filed last week requiring Trigg Sheriff Ray Burnam to turn over all evidence in the Chantel Humphries murder case, he did say once a felony crime is turned over to his office, he is responsible for overseeing the case.
Ovey says, although his office does not investigate, they need to be in loop.
Ovey filed the motion asking Judge C A Woodall to require the sheriff to disclose all information he has garnered during his investigation. Judge Woodall is scheduled to hear oral arguments Wednesday in Trigg Circuit Court.
