A well known Hopkinsville Oncologist was among those honored Saturday by the local Colonel John Green Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dr. Ratilal Gajera of the E.C. Green Cancer Center at Jennie Stuart Medical Center is the recipient of the National DAR Americanism Medal Award, the second highest recognition given by the DAR. Chapter Regent Laura Walden presented the award.
Dr. Gajera has also contributed time and money to sponsor a booth at the Chamber of Commerce International Festival to attract business from foreign countries to our area for the past three years. At Jennie Stuart, he has served as Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology Director, and President of the Medical Staff.
Also honored were Beth Mann and D. J. Everett of WKDZ and WHVO, who were named joint recipients of the Lifetime Public Relations and Media Award. The presentation by Mrs. Walden singled out the station's broadcast and streaming of Fort Campbell High School Football games to troops serving overseas.
A teacher at University Heights Academy is recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of American History Award. Brett Pritchett was cited for numberous activities and achievements with his students. He is the only teacher in Kentucky to be picked for a National Honor as the James Madison Memorial Fellowship, which supports secondary teachers in their studies for their master's degree.
The DAR's Community Service Award went to Jim Wisby, a retired Lt. Colonel who has given his entired life to helping his community and country. Other's recognized included Mary Elizabeth Garnett as Chapter Outstanding junior Member and Willie Cooper for Best Natinoal Defense Editorial Award.
Three members were recognized for 50 years as members of the John Green Chapter. They are Hilda Howard with 50 years, Elizabeth James with 61 years and Margaret Clay, 70 years.
