After a dry summer and fall, Staff Meteorologist David Bryant says areas of Western Kentucky could receive some much needed rainfall over the next few days. An active weather pattern is developing over the region that could bring several inches of rainfall to Western Kentucky. A series of systems will cross the area between now and Monday potentially dropping three or more inches of rainfall in some locations. While much of the precipitation will initially soak into the ground, flooding may become an issue as the ground becomes more saturated.
Rainfall totals would be highest in areas that receive thunderstorm activity. The best chance for thunderstorms appears to be Sunday into Sunday night. While a few strong storms are possible, the severe weather threat looks to remain limited.
Temperatures over the weekend are expected in the mid to upper 60s. A cold front will move through by Monday and dramatically lower the temperatures. Highs on Monday are expected in the mid 40s with lows Monday night falling into the mid 20s.
