Hopkinsville Police say 32-year old Gene Woods Jr. of Hopkinsville was injured in a wreck on East 9th Street early Saturday morning and then cited into court for DUI. The report says the accident happened just after 4am, when Woods admittedly was texting while driving and nearly ran off the road, but ended up hitting a utilty pole.
Officer Jerry Marcum says he found Woods unconscious and not wearing a seat belt in his vehicle, which was still in drive, but with a dead motor. Woods allegedly admitted to drinking about a half pint of alcohol several hours earlier. Police charged Woods with DUI, but he was only cited into court due to his injuries. Woods was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
