The Trigg County Economic Development Commission hosted a Trigg Industrial Manager Association luncheon yesterday. Local industry officials learned about Tomorrow’s Workforce Now, an A.C.T., Incorporated initiative.
Tomorrow’s Workforce Now is designed to improve America’s workforce and make it easier for businesses to hire qualified employees. The initiative allows businesses to use the National Career Readiness Certificate at no cost for a limited time to evaluate current employees.
EDC Director Sharon Butts is asking local businesses to commit to the initiative and encourage their employees to participate.
Many organizations already rely on TABE scores, a test that measures basic reading and math skills. The NCRC goes beyond that, measuring basic reading, math and information-gathering skills, as well as a talent assessment.
Butts says she doesn’t think the NCRC will take the place of the TABE test.
More and more industries nationwide are requiring prospective employees to hold a National Career Readiness Certificate, industries like Hemlock in Clarksville.
Participation in the Tomorrow’s Workforce Now initiative will move Trigg County forward in its quest for a Work-Ready Community certification. Butts says that will be an advantage in attracting new industries.
