It has been just over a month and a half since the 3rd Brigade Combat Team took over in the villages in Regional Command East in Afghanistan, and Commander, Colonel R.J. Lillibridge, says the troops are doing well. Colonel Lillibridge told the News Edge, via teleconference from Afghanistan, that taking over in September from the 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division out of Alaska went seamlessly.
He adds the Afghan soldiers and police know international forces will be pulling out in the coming years, and they are stepping up to learn how to defend their country.
The Rakkasan Commander says his soldiers have to stay sharp at all times.
The Rakkasans are partnering with Afghan National Army soldiers, Afghan Police and Afghan Border Patrol units in the Paktika province of Afghanistan, which lies along the Pakistan border.
