Expansion At Blanchfield Hospital

In an effort to better serve the Fort Campbell community and area veterans, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital is planning a 43-million dollar expansion that will increase services in several areas once complete in 2015. Hospital and 101st Airborne Division officials broke ground on the new 21-thousand square foot building Friday morning. BACH Commander, Colonel Paul Cordts says he and the staff are excited to see the earth start to move and the newest addition to the hospital start to go up.

Colonel Cordts adds that the expansion will include an expansion to the Mother-Baby Unit and a 13-thousand dollar addition to the Emergency Center as well as a new parking and a new helipad, but most importantly it will bring the behavioral health services under one roof. Division Deputy Commander for Support, Brigadier General Ronald Lewis says the behavior health consolidation will be beneficial to all soldiers.

He adds that they are currently working to hire more psychiatrists and psychologists to create five additional embedded behavioral health teams within the Division's other units. Division Command Sergeant Major, Alonzo Smith also extolled the virtues of a great behavioral health soldiers.

The investment is another way the army and Fort Campbell are reaching out to combat the epidemic of post traumatic stress disorder and suicide. Mortenson Construction will be handling the project, which many will notice is already underway as much of the area around BACH has been marked off near construction areas.
