Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd has ruled that the Legislative Research Commission is responsible for the legal fees of the lawmakers who successfully challenged political redistricting in court.
Shepherd has given the LRC 30 days to either pay up or appeal his ruling that the agency owes more than $112,000 for House Republicans who challenged how legislative districts were redrawn and more than $74,000 to the legal team of State Senator Kathy Stein.
Lawmakers are expected to take up the redistricting issue again in the next legislative session, which begins in January.
