Despite a low turnout for the Kentucky Public Service Commission hearing Wednesday night, residents of western Kentucky still have time to voice their opinion on the new area code implementation. PSC Communications Director, Andrew Melnykovych says public input is being sought on which of the two options for a new area code is best for western Kentucky, but there is good news.
He says creating an overlay in the area is the easier of the two options.
Melnykovych adds 40 of the last 41 area code additions in the nation have been overlays.
But PSC is still considering the split although the boundary is still unknown and they are currently presuming it would be along the line proposed in 2005 running north and south between Henderson and Owensboro all the way to the Christian/Todd County line.
Residents have until November 16th to voice their opinions about the new area code and can do so by downloading a form from psc.ky.gov. The new 364 area code would be implemented in late 2013 because the 270 area code is slated to run out in the first quarter of 2014.
