Tuesday Night Forum Features Senate Debate

Everything from budget cuts to increased taxes is fair game during the League of Women Voters forums, with Tuesday night being no exception. The financial woes for Kentucky, taxes, and energy were the prevailing topics for 3rd District State Senator Joey Pendleton and his challenger Whitney Westerfield.  Senator Pendleton says the three issues facing Kentucky are pension, education and economy.

He adds the Oak Grove Village Mall, with its four to five thousand jobs, is just one of many projects he helped bring in to create jobs and that speaks to his track record.

Westerfield agrees pension and the economy are problems, but spending is also an issue.

He also says these issues are related because if the state cuts spending and invests in infrastructure, then jobs will grow as well as the economy.

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville City Council Ward 7 candidates-William Joe Everett and Buddy Oglesby- faced off on topics ranging from the smoking ban and quality of life to a metro government and Oak Grove's growth. Ward 6 Councilwoman Ann Cherry was unable to attend, but her opponent, Roger Richey, was allowed a time to address the audience.
