2008 Murder Trial Continues With Firearms Expert Testimony

A ballistics expert in the case against Derrick James and Jordan Young testified Tuesday that the shell casing left by Young in the back seat of Sherrika Epps’ car during a murder in Clarksville just hours after the shooting of 18 year old Shyara Olavarria matched ones found at the scene in Oak Grove.

Former Tennessee Bureau of Investigation forensic scientist specializing in firearms identification and tools marks examiner, Don Carmen testified that, despite the fact he had no gun to match them to, the 10 casings from Oak Grove were a match to the one found in Clarksville.

Epps, who testified Tuesday as well, says the case came from a gun used by Young to kill Ojawaine “Juice” Marbury, who was attacking James. She testified that she only heard the shooting and then saw the gun in Young’s lap.

Testimony in the case will resume Wednesday afternoon at 2pm to allow Christian County Circuit Judge John Atkins to handle his normal rule day proceedings in the morning.
