Former Executive Director of the Pennyroyal Center, Tom Westerfield, was killed in a tractor accident Tuesday afternoon, while bush hogging in a cornfield on his farm in the 9000 block of Greenville Road. Christian County Sheriff Livy Leavell spoke to the News Edge on the scene.
Leavell told the News Edge that the 72-year old Westerfield was able to call for assistance when the accident occurred, and that his call enabled rescue personnel to locate him.
Firefighters from the Lacy Volunteer Fire Department along with rescue personnel were called out to the scene just after 1:00pm.
Westerfield served as Executive Director of the Pennyroyal Center from 1995 through 2001. He also served as Director for Administrative Services, and Associate Executive Director. He began his tenure at the Pennyroyal Center as a school liason back in 1970.
Tom Westerfield is survived by his wife, Gina, and six sons, Chris, Ben, Matthew, Wesley, Whitney, and Charlie.
