Theft and assaults are down in Hopkinsville compared to last year, while traffic accidents are up. Hopkinsville Police Lieutenant Michael Felts says there is a correlation in traffic accidents with the start of school each year.
Felts also says there has been a larger number of traffic accidents in the city so far this year.
He adds they tried new ways to lower accidents, including officer presents and public education, but it seems stops are a major deterrent.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Erik Pacheco says crime in the city is down compared to this time last year.
He adds that the detectives are doing their part to solve the cases that are open.
Lieutenants Felts and Pacheco spoke at the monthly crime meeting Thursday at the Lackey Municipal building.
