Sunday Storms Cause Minor Damage

Strong thunderstorms, bringing much needed rain and cooler temperatures to the area, resulted in some minor damage and power outages across the area Sunday evening. There were reports of some trees down in Hopkinsville, with one of those damaging a residence on Canton Street.

A large part of a tree fell onto a power line on South Wooldridge Road. Police and fire crews closed that section of South Wooldridge, beginning at the intersection with Canton Street, until Hopkinsville Electric System crews were able to repair the line. Trained weather spotters also reported ¾-inch hail.

Hopkinsville Electric Service reported as many as 500 customers without power at one point during the evening. Pennyrile Rural Electric told the News Edge Sunday evening they had less than 50 customers affected in Christian and Trigg County.

In Hopkins County, there were reports of large limbs down in the Earlington area, and reports of 1 ¾-inch hail in the Richland area.
