Christian County Public Schools will be under new leadership starting July 1st and the woman taking the job couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity.
The Board of Education formally approved hiring Mary Ann Gemmill as superintendent by unanimous vote, after a motion from Mary Debow.
After the vote, new Superintendent Gemmill received a standing ovation from the employees and community members on hand and shed a few tears of joy.
While not the first female superintendent in Christian County, she will be the first female superintendent the district has had in over a century.
The board voted to pay Gemmill 150-thousand dollars a year, which will be 30-thousand less than she was making in Florida.
Following the special called meeting, Board Chairman Barry Cornelius spoke to the News Edge about what made Gemmill the best candidate.
DeBow’s excitement is mirrored by the other board members as well as the community, with leaders excited by her drive and promise to hold everyone accountable.
