Veterans Organizations Honor Trigg Students, Teachers

Several students and teachers were honored at the Trigg County Veteran's Day Parade Friday. The VFW Post 7890 sponsored essay winners to be in the parade. Voice of Democracy Essay Contest Winner, Jordyn Ethridge and Patriot Pen Essay Contest Winner Landi Rogers represented High and Middle School students, respectively.

Teachers of the Year were honored at each level as well - 2nd Grade Teacher, Ashley Humphries, Middle School Librarian Beverly Gardner, and High School Engineering Teacher Lori Ricks.

The Daughter of the American Revolution James Thomas Chapter honored several students as well - Dominique Ireland received the Good Citizen Award voted on by high school teachers, Kylie Slone received the Intermediate School's Special Veterans Award, and Ali Cooper received the Middle School's Special Veteran's Award. The Special Veterans Award honors a student who writes a letter explaining why their veteran should be chosen, as well as the veteran's experiences and community involvement.

The Parade included an appearance by the Trigg County Marching Wildcats, who recently competed at the State Finals.

Veterans from every branch marched in the parade and then gathered with community members at West Cadiz Park for a program featuring Grand Marshal Karle Johnson.
