Suspect In Country Boy Store Robbery In Custody

A suspect in the Wednesday robbery at the Country Boy Store, in Newstead, is in custody in Calloway County. Just after 3:00pm Wednesday, deputies confirmed to the News Edge that the suspect in the robbery was in custody in Murray and detectives were on their way to interview him.

Deputies say the owner of the Country Boy Store, 74-year old Kenneth Gant Golladay, told them a black male, wearing all black, had robbed the store and made off with undisclosed merchandise after striking him in the head.

A news release says information regarding the suspect was disseminated, with the assistance from the Kentucky State Police, to surrounding agencies.

Captain Chris Miller says after communicating with the Trigg County Sheriff's Department and the Murray Police Department, law enforcement officials were able to locate the suspect at a Walmart in Murray and place him in custody.

The suspect's name is being withheld until further information regarding possible accomplices is obtained.  Miller says once that information is collected and verified, an additional news release will be sent out with further details.

News Edge News Director Alan Watts spoke to Christian County Sheriff Livy Leavell on the scene Wednesday, right after the robbery.

Miller says Golladay, who was originally taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, has been transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of the head trauma he suffered during the robbery that took place sometime around noon Wednesday.
