No criminal charges are being pursued over allegations of evidence mishandling in the Chantel Humphries murder case. When asked about any investigation concerning rumors of the mishandling of prosecution evidence following the recent trial of suspect Claude Russell, Sheriff Ray Burnam says he does not plan to pursue criminal charges at this time.
When contacted by the News Edge, Commonwealth Attorney G.L. Ovey said all the prosecution evidence in the Chantel Humphries murder case is in the custody of Kentucky State Police. He had no other comments concerning the possible mishandling of evidence in the case. Defense Attorney John Stewart has not responded to calls from the News Edge concerning the allegations.
