Representatives React To State Budget

Three local members of the Kentucky House of Representatives say they are pleased that lawmakers were able to do their constitutional duty and pass a state budget before the session entered the veto recess Monday night. Representatives John Tilley, Myron Dossett and Kenny Imes were among the large majority of House members that voted for the budget, and the accompanying revenue bill. 8th District State Representative John Tilley says he is pleased that funding has finally been approved for a new Breathitt Veterinary Center in Hopkinsville.

Tilley adds additional funding for state worker and teacher pay raises in the budget is also a plus.

Meanwhile 9th District State Representative Myron Dossett agreed about the local projects, adding that he was able to support the revenue bill because the gas tax increase was removed.

Dossett says he understands there is a need for better roads and has submitted a list of local roads that need work, but his concern was over how much was being spent in eastern Kentucky.

5th District State Representative Kenny Imes says he was concerned about the amount of bonded indebtedness the state had to incur to fund the projects, but is glad two Murrain State initiatives are on the list.

Imes noted he is glad the Judicial budget included pay raises for Deputy Circuit Clerks across the state.

Lawmakers will return to Frankfort for one to two days beginning April 14th for a veto override session. They are hopeful that a six-year road plan can be approved before the session adjourns April 15th, at the latest.
