League Of Women Voters Forum Night 1 Good For Debating

Christian County residents are now better acquainted with the candidates for several state and local offices thanks to the League of Women Voters Forum Monday night.

Jobs and money, or rather the lack thereof, was the theme of the night for 8th District State Representative John Tilley and Republican challenger Max Sturdivant. Tilley says there are concerns with the budget, but he and others have been working to solve the problem without creating new ones.

Sturdivant says elected politicians are not doing enough to create jobs and work with the funding the state has.

Tilley and Sturdivant answered numerous questions about finance, jobs, healthcare and children during their first public debate.

Meanwhile, the night also featured debates between Hopkinsville City Council Ward 1 candidates-Carolsue Daigre, Wendell Green and Thomas Grant, as well as Ward 5 incumbent Charlie Henderson and challenger Jason McCraw. Among topics they debated were the smoking ban, the new municipal building and police department, the budget, recruitment of jobs and industry, and transportation. Each had the chance to voice his or her opinion on the smoking ban:

Night two of the League of Women Voters Forums will feature debates between candidates for the Hopkinsville City Council Ward 6 seat, the Ward 7 seat and the 3rd District State Senate seat.
