Human Remains Found In Logan County Identified

Human remains found near Auburn in December have been identified by Kentucky State Police. Public Information Officer Trooper Jeremy Hodges tells the News Edge the remains belonged to John Cauley of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

State Police reported they were contacted by the Logan County Sheriff's Office on December 5 after the human remains were found by hunters in a wooded area on Willow Pond Road. The remains that included a skull, jawbone, and some vertebrae were sent to state Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville.

Logan County Coroner Mary Givens told the News-Democrat and Leader an Auburn resident led detectives to the identity of Cauley after learning about the case. Cauley was reportedly a transient who had been staying in and around the Auburn area and left some of his belongings behind at a residence, including a wallet with his driver's license.

Givens also told the newspaper there was no visible trauma to the remains found.

State Police are continuing to investigate the case.
