Hopkinsville Woman Charged With Meth Possession

One of two individuals charged with shoplifting at a Hopkinsville store Sunday is also facing meth possession offenses. Hopkinsville Police report they were contacted by Loss Prevention at Walmart on Clinic Drive around 12:35 Sunday morning of a subject concealing merchandise inside her purse.

The subjects were identified as 18-year old Sydney Overton, of Oak Grove and 23-year old Megan Thomas, of Hopkinsville. During a search of the women’s purses, police reportedly found numerous merchandise in its original packaging with an estimated total of more than $52.00. Loss Prevention also told police they observed on security video Overton dumping merchandise in other areas of the store, as well as removing items from its packaging.

Police say they also found two small plastic ziplock bags inside the purse belonging to Thomas — one with what appeared to be methamphetamine adn the other bag contained pills.

Overton and Thomas were lodged in the Christian County Jail for Theft By Unlawful Taking – Shoplifting Under $500. Thomas was also charged with 1st Degree Possession of Meth, and 2nd and 3rd Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance.
