Hopkinsville Man Charged With 3rd DUI

A Hopkinsville man was arrested after a traffic stop and charged with his 3rd DUI. Hopkinsville Police report 54-year old Alonzo Byers was topped at the intersection of South Main and West Edmunds Streets around 7:20 Tuesday night for an expired registration plate.

Upon contact, police say Byers had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. The officer also reportedly found an open half-empty cold can of beer in the center console of the vehicle. Police say Byers performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

Byers was booked into the Christian County Jail charged with Expired Registration Plate, Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle Prohibited, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs – 3rd Offense.
