Hopkins County Resident Charged With Murdering Child

A Hopkins County resident has been arrested on a charge of Murder in connection to the death of a four year old child back in April. According to information from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, 24-year old Kelley Kirby, of Earlington, was arrested Tuesday after being indicted by the Hopkins County Grand Jury. It was in April that the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate the death of a 4-year old child.

The investigation revealed that the child died while in the care of Kirby. Investigators were originally told that the child was injured in a fall, however, during the investigation, it was learned that the extent of the injuries were not consistent with a fall. The case was presented to the Hopkins County Grand Jury Tuesday and an indictment was returned for the arrest of Kirby on charges of Murder and Criminal Abuse.  Kelley Kirby was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
