Governor Bevin Details Budget Proposal With News Edge

Governor Matt Bevin’s proposed 2018-19 budget eliminates funding for several programs. Bevin discussed his budget proposal during a conversation Wednesday morning with the News Edge.

The Governor says his budget calls for 6.25 percent cuts to most state agencies, with some programs to receive no funding.

Bevin said one area that will not be cut is SEEK funding for students.

The Governor did say he wants districts to review administrative costs.

The budget also proposes $100 million in bond pool funding for workforce skills training, $34 million from the tobacco settlement fund to fight the opioid epidemic, $24 million to increase social worker salaries, $10.8 million to fund new adoption and foster children support and funding for 75 new commonwealth and county attorneys and 51 new public advocates to strengthen the criminal justice system. And the Governor committed to 100 percent of lottery funds going to education.
