Early Childhood Education Discussed at Rotary

Preparation for school during a child’s early years is a strong indicator of how a child will perform in his or her later school years. Speaking to the Rotary Club of Cadiz, Governor’s Office of Early Education Director Terry Tolan says true education involves not only good teachers, but a well rounded system of reading and conversation in the home. A shortfall in that area has her office insuring that all Pre-K facilities are preparing children with the tools needed to enable children to enter kindergarten ready to learn.

Tolan told The News Edge that sadly, only forty-percent of children entering kindergarten fit that model, and it leaves schools needing to catch students up to the point they can begin learning.
