Comer Says He Does Not Support Stricter Gun Control

Increased gun control is a debate that follows schools shootings, but something one local federal representative is not for. 1st District Congressman James Comer says he has spoken with the fathers of Marshall County teenagers Bailey Holt and Preston Cope.

He says he cannot support stricter gun control.

He adds that states have seen drastic cuts to their educational budgets over the last couple of years. Comer would be open to a discussion about increased background checks.

When asked if the two were not the same thing, Comer said he saw them as separate issues.

Comer says there will be an investigation into the FBI’s handling of reports that Nikolas Cruz was a potential terrorist. He says it will most likely come before the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on which he sets.
