Area Roads Closed Due To Heavy Rain

The heavy rainfall overnight and a landslide have also forced road closures around the area today. The Kuttawa Fire Department is reporting that State Route 295, also known as Lake Barkley Drive, in Old Kuttawa is closed in the area of Kuttawa Mountain due to a landslide blocking the entire road. They say the area is too unstable for crews to clear the site. Officials indicate the road will be closed until further notice. They also warn the area is dangerous and additional sliding could occur with the additional rainfall in the forecast, and they are telling motorists to not enter the area.

The following roads are also closed due to water over the road:

In Trigg County, Emergency Management Director David Bryant says Kentucky 1507, also known as Barefield Road, is closed between the one and two mile marker; Glenwood Mill at the bridge; Bush Road from KY-139; Adams Mill Road at Ben Adams Bridge, and U.S. 68 has high water signs posted at the 13 mile marker.

In Christian County, Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says Woodmill Road at East 21st Street is closed.

In Lyon County, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says KY 819/Sunshine Loop is CLOSED at the 2 to 3 mile marker; Kentucky 1954 at the 3 to 4 mile marker, and Kentucky 1113 at the Lyon-Caldwell County Line. And as I just mentioned Kentucky 295/Lake Barkley Drive is closed due to a landslide.

Todd also reports numerous roads in District 1 and 2 have high water signs posted.

Motorists need to use caution and slow down when driving around the region today due to ponding water on roadways and the possibility of water over the road.
