Trial Date Set In Bethel Street Robbery-Murder Case

The trial date for three adults and three juveniles charged in connection to a robbery and murder on Bethel Street in January was set during a pretrial conference in Christian Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling told the News Edge Tuesday the juveniles are being charged as adults in this case. The adults, Shakkory Willis is charged with murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, while James Yates and Lane Carter are charged with first-degree complicity to burglary, first-degree complicity to robbery and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. The juveniles, Madison Wilson, Tia Ochs, and Korey Zivotin are charged with first-degree robbery. Zivotin faces an additional charge of first-degree assault.

All six defendants and their attorneys appeared before Judge John Atkins, who scheduled the trial for February 2020.

The charges stem from January 24 when police said the three men and a 14-year old juvenile kicked in the door to a home located at 1923 Short Bethel Street with the intent to rob 19-year old Dylan Stewart and 20-year old Corvyan Thomas of drugs and money. Police said during the preliminary hearing in District Court in February, that Willis shot Stewart in the leg and shot Thomas three times with a handgun, resulting in his death.

Judge Atkins noted Tuesday the case would be continued until the trial date unless one of the attorneys filed a motion before February and a pretrial conference needed to be scheduled.
