No New Details Released Concerning Cadiz Fatal Wreck

Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson says he will likely release more details later this morning about the fatal traffic crash in Cadiz Monday afternoon that happened along US 68 in front of El Bracero Mexican Restaurant.

Vinson told the News Edge he is still working to notify the victim’s next of kin and expects to release the person’s identity this morning.

Emergency officials were called to the scene of the three-vehicle crash around 3:30 Monday afternoon, with two of the wrecked vehicles remaining on US 68 and a third striking a utility pole in front of El Bracero on Merchant Drive. The impact split the utility pole in half and resulted in severe damage to the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, whose name has still not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner’s office. No word on the extent of injuries to others that were involved in the wreck.

Cadiz Police initially responded to the crash, then quickly called Kentucky State Police to conduct an accident reconstruction. The News Edge was told Kentucky State Police would provide additional details on the scene, but troopers failed to provide any information to the News Edge before leaving the crash scene. No details details have been released by Kentucky State Police concerning the wreck.

The crash caused a power outage to more than 700 Pennyrile Electric Customers in the area east of the Cadiz substation to the Broadbent Square area that lasted into the early evening hours. The crash also caused the closure of both lanes of US 68 near the intersection of the Cadiz Bypass and Main Street, along with Commerce Street and Merchant Drive in the Tollgate Shopping Center area. Power was restored and the roadway had reopened by 7:00 Monday night.
