Christian County Sheriff Candidates Discuss Issues

The Christian County Sheriff’s candidate all have law enforcement experience, with each expressing goals for improved operation of the sheriff’s department.

Independent Franklin Pollard, Democrat Kahl Morris and Republican Tyler DeArmond discussed a number of issues during the Christian County League of Women Voters Forum at the Hopkinsville Municipal Building.

When asked if they plan to make changes if elected, Franklin Pollard said he would evaluate the staff and make changes if needed.

Kahle Morris said he would spend six months reviewing all staff and make changes if needed.

Tyler DeArmond says he would place all employees on a 90 day review and make any changes after that.

When asked about their experience managing large amounts of money, Kahle Morris touted his business experience.

Tyler DeArmond says he has leadership experience and it is critical to hold all employees accountable.

Franklin Pollard said he is a problem solver and will work with his staff to best collect taxes and operate the business side of the department.

The candidates also discussed how to better address the opioid drug problem. Tyler DeArmond says increased enforcement and better education are two ways to address it.

Pollard said it is critical better educate the public about drugs.

Morris said it is important to address all substance abuse problems.

Candidates also discussed staff and training, the sheriff’s department’s relationship with Kentucky State Police and Hopkinsville Police and their top priorities if elected.
