Authorities say no one was injured when an officer fired his service weapon at a vehicle when two suspects tried to flee from police at the Pilot Gas Station in Oak Grove Tuesday afternoon.
Christian County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Chris Millers says the incident occurred shortly before 3:25 p.m. when deputies and the members of the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force were at the gas station off of Interstate 24 at the Pembroke-Oak Grove Exit 89 to arrest a subject for outstanding warrants. When authorities tried to apprehend the individual, Miller says the suspect tried to flee in a vehicle and drove toward a Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force officer, at which time the officer discharged his weapon at the oncoming vehicle. The vehicle continued to flee the scene and officers were able to stop and apprehended the suspects in the area of Oak Grove City Hall just south of the Pilot Gas Station.
According to Captain Miller, the passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants and is expected to face numerous additional charges when the initial investigation is complete. The driver of the vehicle was charged with fleeing and evading as well as several counts of wanton endangerment with more charges expected as the investigation continues.
There were no injuries reported and Captain Miller says the area was blocked off by officials while the incident was being investigated. He notes investigators are continuing to interview the suspects and more information, as well as the suspect’s names, will be released in the upcoming days.
Oak Grove Police also assisted in the apprehension of the suspects.
