Par Place Fire Victims Giving Donation To Fire Department

A Hopkinsville couple is thankful to be alive after their Par Place home was ravaged by fire a week ago. In fact, they are so grateful for the quick response of the firefighters the physicians are making a monetary donation to the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

Retired internal medicine specialist, Dr. Barbara Nowosielska and her husband Dr. Francis Van Meter, a retired general surgeon specialist, tells the News Edge they suffered a tragic event that Sunday night, when their home caught fire. She says the events unfolded rapidly.

Dr. Nowosielska says they came to realize they are not the only ones whose lives can turn on a dime and, unfortunately, many people face tragedies and circumstances, fires, and loss of life. She adds they are blessed because of the quick action of the firefighters. She says by the grace of God they made it out alive and that is the most important thing.

To show their gratitude to Hopkinsville Fire Chief Freddie Montgomery, Jr. and the firefighters, Dr. Nowosielska says a $1,000 donation will be made to the Smoke Detector Program. In the future, she adds they would like to meet with all of the brave firemen to personally show their appreciation.

Five Hopkinsville Fire Departments responded to their home at 212 Par Place around 8:00 the night of August 12 to battle the blaze. The couple had evacuated the home without injuries prior to the arrival of firefighters; however, two firefighters were taken to the emergency room at Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries they received during the operations.
