Hopkinsville Man Charged With Possessing Drugs

A traffic stop on East 4th Street at the railroad early Friday morning led to the arrest of a Hopkinsville man on multiple charges.

Hopkinsville Police say a vehicle was pulled over shortly after 2:30 a.m. for not having an illuminated license plate. An officer approaching the vehicle reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the cab and the driver, 20-year old Steven Moody, had glassy eyes and slurred speech.

According to the report, police found marijuana and several bills of cash wadded up in his pocket during a pat down. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a digital scale, several pieces of marijuana cigarettes and an open alcoholic beverage container.

Police indicate Moody failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Christian County Jail where officers say they found several white pills that Moody had tried to dump. During a strip search, authorities reportedly found a clear plastic baggie in his groin area that had residue consistent with the pills recovered.

Moody was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 3rd Degree Possession of Controlled Substance – Drug Unspecified, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in a Motor Vehicle, and the license plate violation.
