Assault, Criminal Abuse Of Child Charges Among Indictments

Two men charged with assault and a Hopkinsville couple charged with criminal abuse of a child were among several individuals indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.

The grand jury indicted 18-year old Khalil Thacker of Hopkinsville for 1st Degree Assault in connection to a shooting on North Vine Street on May 17. During an interview, Hopkinsville Police reported Thacker confessed to shooting Barry Burchett in the right side of his head with a small caliber handgun and then threw the gun in a wooded area nearby before fleeing the scene. The victim was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

The grand jury indicted 32-year old Xavier Bryant for 1st Degree Assault, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, and Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs. The arrest report says a female victim stated Bryant hit her in the head with a firearm on May 17. When officers obtained a search warrant for Bryant’s residence, they reportedly found synthetic marijuana.

Ronnie Ford was indicted for 1st Degree Robbery, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Intimidating a Participant in a Legal Process, Alcohol Intoxication, and 2nd Degree Assault. The warrant states the charges stem from May 25 when a victim reported to Hopkinsville Police Ford repeatedly hit him in the head with a large flashlight while demanding the victim’s wallet and vehicle keys. Ford then allegedly told the victim and his wife he would come back and kill both of them. Police reported Ford threw the flashlight into a yard down the street to get rid of the evidence, and then fled on foot.

Laparkah Thomas was indicted for 1st Degree Robbery. On March 31, according to the warrant, Thomas attacked a male victim while armed with a knife, held him down, took $19 out of the victim’s shirt pocket and then fled the scene.

The grand jury also indicted Timothy Coleman and Sabrina Martin on 2nd Degree Criminal Abuse Child Under 12. During course of an investigation, the warrant says from November 28 through November 30, the warrant says Coleman and Martin were caring for a two year old child and spanked or hit the toddler leaving bruises as well as a hand print bruise/mark on the child’s back.
