In preparation for an upcoming deployment in Afghanistan, soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade held a colors-casing ceremony at Fort Campbell Wednesday.

An Army tradition, the casing of colors represents the moving of the brigade to a new theater of operation.

During the ceremony, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade Commander Colonel Craig Alia says in a release he and Command Sergeant Major Thomas are humbled to serve alongside the incredible men and women, adding this is going to be a challenging deployment. However, he adds they have no doubt that the soldiers are ready for this deployment.

The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade will replace the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade as part of a regular rotation of forces to support Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and this will be the unit’s fifth deployment to Afghanistan. During those previous deployments, the brigade flew thousands of hours transporting troops around the battlefield and providing close air support and aerial reconnaissance.

The ceremony took place at Fort Campbell’s Destiny Field.
