Authorities say a traffic safety checkpoint Saturday night netted the arrest of a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year old Edrick Burrus was stopped to the checkpoint at Gate 5 on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Oak Grove Saturday morning around 1:30, and it was determined he did not have an operator’s licenses. Deputies reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and say Burrus admitted to smoking a joint before he was stopped. During a search of the vehicle, deputies say they found a handgun concealed with ammo under the driver’s seat, which Burrus admitted belonged to him. A records search revealed Burrus was a felon.

Burrus was taken into custody and lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Handgun By a Convicted Felon, and No Operator’s License.
