A Cadiz military family, who lost almost everything when their home was damaged by fire and smoke Monday, has set up a GoFundMe page. Cadiz Fire Department firefighters were called to a kitchen fire shortly before noon Monday at 250 Third Street, at the corner of West End Avenue. Chief Kerry Fowler said the fire was in the kitchen and had spread to another room, causing a lot of smoke damage.

Togar Parham told the News Edge she had just stepped out of the shower when she noticed the fire in the kitchen and rushed to get dressed in order to escape the home. Fortunately, she made it out and was not injured.

Parham lives in the home with her husband, Kevin and children. During an interview Wednesday, she tells the News Edge she is with the U.S. Navy and is stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and had come home on a 10 day leave to help her family and her aunt, who has pancreatic cancer. Parham adds the day of the fire she was scheduled to return to Virginia. After the fire occurred, she was granted another leave to take care of things here.
