Authorities say a traffic stop in Todd County led to multiple charges lodged against a Clarksville man, including fleeing and assaulting a police officer.

Kentucky State Police report a trooper tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on US 79, north of Allensville around 10:00pm Friday night. When the trooper made contact with the driver, later identified as 24-year old Keelon Rice, of Clarksville, he detected the smell of marijuana and instructed the operator to get out of the car. However, police say Rice refused. The trooper then opened the car door and tried to remove Rice, but he reportedly accelerated, almost dragging the trooper under the car.

After traveling a short distance, state police say Rice stopped, and the trooper once again tried to pull him out of the vehicle, but he accelerated again, dragging the trooper a short distance before stopping. The trooper was then able to remove Rice from the vehicle, but he continued to resist until the trooper gained control of him.

Rice was taken into custody and booked into the Todd County Detention Center charged with Speeding 26 MPH or Greater Over Speed Limit, Reckless Driving, 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police in a Motor Vehicle, 3rd Degree Assault of a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Operating on a Suspended or Revoked Operator’s License, and Display or Possession of Cancelled or Fictitious Operator’s License.
