A second Trigg County teen has been granted probation in connection with a series of burglaries and arsons in the Canton area in October of 2015.
18-year Dylan Schimp was given five years of probation by Circuit Judge C.A. Woodall over the opposition of Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins. Schimp was also ordered to pay nearly $5,000 in restitution.
Schimp and his co-defendant 18 year-old Robert Stidham were charged with eight counts of burglary and two counts of arson stemming from incidents in October 2015. Both teens were charged and tried as adults in Trigg County Circuit Court.
After serving two years in juvenile detention, Judge Woodall felt Schimp was due a second chance.
Schimp will serve his probation in Florida and was released from custody during Wednesday’s court session.
Meanwhile, Stidham, who was sentenced to 10 years probation on the charges in October, appeared before Judge Woodall to explain why he has not made any restitution payments that were part of his probation agreement. Stidham said he has not been able to find a job, but told the Court he has applied to “five or six” places and is taking college classes in Hopkinsville.
Judge Woodall ordered Stidham to make a minimum payment of $25 a month and will review his case in March.
