A 19-year old Cadiz man was arrested over the weekend for burglary and assault. Hopkinsville Police report they were dispatched to an unknown problem at a residence in the 3500 block of Velma Drive around 8:30 Sunday night. Police say they found Austin Gardner had entered the home armed with a shotgun and hit his ex-girlfriend while children watched. The report indicates Gardner and the female victim have a child in common.
Police say Gardner was placed in the back of the patrol car while they continued their investigation. When officers returned, they smelled marijuana coming from the rear cab of the police cruiser. Police reportedly found a blunt cigar and marijuana smashed on the floorboard where Gardner was sitting.
Gardner was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Assault – Domestic Violence No Visibile Injury, and Possession of Marijuana. He was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
