Toy Trains At Museums of Historic Hopkinsville and Christian County


Toy Trains from the late Dan Cowherd and Bill Ferrell have been operating at the Pennyroyal Area Museum the last two weekends.  Museum Director Alyssa Keller says more than 130 people stopped in to see the trains.

Shop With A Cop


Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department, deputies with the Christian County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Jailers, and Fort Campbell Military Police joined together to make "Shop With a Cop" special for 25 kids and their siblings. We went along for the ride and took these pictures.

More than 500 people participated in the 12th Annual Turkey Trot in downtown Hopkinsville.  The event, hosted by the Pennyrile Rail Trail Foundation, raises money to support the promotion of greenways in Christian County.

Local Volunteers Help In Brookport, Illinois

Hopkinsville Trick or Treat


Pirates, ghost, skeltons, Snow White, wolves, cowboys and a fairy princesses were abundant in downtown Hopkinsville for the annual Trick or Treat celebration. The weather was perfect and young and old alike had a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a huge success!

Halloween Safe Night in Cadiz


Downtown Cadiz was full of cowboys, cats, pirates, witches, mice, bumble bees, lions, werewolves, and I even saw a box of crayons and Scarlet O'Hara! Kids as well as adults had a great time - thanks to the downtown businesses and everyone who helped make this a fun afternoon for hundreds of residents.

Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon


Trigg County Hospital held their annual Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon Tuesday, at the Renaissance Center, in downtown Cadiz, The hospital holds the event each year to raise awareness about the warning signs of breast cancer, the technology that is available in your hometown, and to show support for those affected by breast cancer.

Pink Out 2013


It was a beautiful day to celebrate cancer survivors and Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the WKDZ/WHVO Pink Out. Over 100 joined in the one mile Walk of Honor, and we appreciate all of the donations for Trigg and Christian County Relay For Life. The highlight of the afternoon was country singer/songwriter Amber Hayes singing her hit single, "Any Day is a Good Day." 2013 Pembroke Harvest Festival A Success

Saturday morning always brings the World's Largest Country Ham Biscuit sponsored by Trigg Country Helping Hands - the biscuit was done in just over an hour and was delicious! Best Country Ham and Biscuit competition was held on the front lawn of the Jefferson House, live music from the WKDZ Ham Jam Stage featuring Haylee Page, (Branch and Dean begins at 12:30), carnival rides, a magician, whole hog roasting in the Justice Center parking lot and vendors galore are all set up for the day - come join us!  Don't forget to stop by the TC Historical Museum to see the WKDZ Radio Retrospective Exhibit!

Ham Fest 3


Rock Williams and his band entertained the crowd as a perfect day ended at the Ham Festival. Lots more fun in store for Saturday with more food, fun and live music. Saturday night Sammy Kershaw will perform at the WKDZ Ham Jam Stage at 7 PM, we are expecting a big crowd so make plans to get there early!

Shaye Patterson was crowned Miss Trigg County 2013 Thursday, October 10th, during the annual pageant held at the Trigg County Schools Little Theater.  The pageant is sponsored by the Trigg County Band Boosters.

Skills USA Students Public Service Project At Lake Barkley State Park


131 Skills USA Students from 10 Western Kentucky Counties spent Thursday, October 3rd, painting picnic tables, refinishing the deck at Lake Barkley State Park Lodge and flipping one of the staff houses at the park.  The News Edge was on hand to see the work in progress.

Youth Explosion


An estimated 3,000 people packed the practice field outside Trigg County Middle School Saturday night for Youth Explosion 2013. Contemporary Christian artists, Unspoken, Chris August and Big Daddy Weave rocked the house and praised the Lord, along with local acts, The Trinity Choir, Jeremy Dale and Nashville Christian rapper Tony Tillman. Hummin' & Strummin'


Several hundred people gathered under the big tent overlooking Lake Barkley at the State Park Beach Friday night to see Kentucky history come to life. Chautauqua performers portrayed the lives of Henry Clay, Mary Todd Lincoln, Mark Twain and Grandpa Jones, and a string quartet made up of musicians from throughout the region played the music of Kentucky Bluegrass legend Bill Monroe.

2013 Three Angels Trail Ride


A number of riders were on hand Saturday, September 28th, for the 6th annual Three Angels Trail Ride at Pennyrile State Resort Park near Dawson Springs.  The ride is held in memory of Roaring Spring murder victims Kayla Williams, Kortney Frensley and Ethan Frensley and in honor of their mother Kristy Frensley.

2013 Tobacco War Pilgrimage Trial Of The Night Riders


The 2013 Tobacco War Pilgrimage included three re-enactments of the historic Trial of the Night Riders in Christian County Courthouse courtroom.  Prior to the trial a Kentucky Humanities Council speaker was on hand to portray a man whose family was attacked by the Night Riders.  Morning Ag Report photographer Susan Watts was in the courtroom to capture photos of the event.

Oak Grove Tourism Officials estimate more than 12-thousand people were on hand Saturday, September 28th, for the 5th Annual Butterfly Festival.  Susan Watts was on hand when the more than 950 butterflies took flight at 5:00.

The Trigg County Military Affairs Committee, along with the VFW, and the American Legion, has been collecting teddy bears, sheets and towels, to donate to the single soldier organization on post, BOSS. The teddy bears will be donated to victims of child abuse on post.

Brice and friends, songwriters Tony Arata, Dylan Altman and David Lee put on a great show Saturday night to a packed house at the Bruce Convention Center. Hopkinsville's Austin Gee opened the show for Brice and Texaco Country Showdown's Haylee Page performed at intermission proving again how much talent there is in this area. The Back 2 Back Foundation raised $35,000 to help Trigg and Christian County families during the holidays........thanks to everyone who helped make this such a successful night!

11th Annual Hopkinsville Eagle Riders Poker Run


Great weather helped the Hopkinsville Eagles Club, Riders Group and Auxilliary raise more than 40-thousand dollars to help the famies of Tyler Watts and Landrey Basham.  The News Edge was a part of the poker run, with Susan Watts capturing some of the moments of the ride during stops in Central City, Madisonville, Dawson Springs, Cadiz and Gracey.  Riders President Mark Hansen presented $20,195 checks to each of the families.

FORT CAMPBELL: Welcome Home Ceremony For Bastogne


The first leg of the 1st Brigade Combat Team returned home Sunday evening after a nine-month deployment.  Fort Campbell officials say approximately 200 Soldiers from Bastogne landed around 9:15pm. Family, friends and fellow soldiers welcomed the returning soldiers.

Nightly memorial services held at the Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall at the Western Kentucky State Fair featured local dignitaries and pastors laying a wreath and offering a prayer for the families of those whose names are on the wall, the heroes from all wars and those continuing to serve our country today.  The News Edge was on hand for some of the memorial services.

WKDZ Texaco Country Showdown


We had a great night of incredible entertainment at the WKDZ Texaco Country Showdown last night at the Western KY State Fairgrounds. Judges comments ranged from "you've got a great set of pipes" to "I'd love to hear your voice on the radio". After much deliberation, Clint Freeman of Adams, Tennessee, was named the winner, and Crofton's Haylee Page was runner up.

2013 Western KY State Fair Horseshow


The 2013 Western KY State Fair horseshow attracted 40 exhibitors to compete in 15 classes.  Pleasant temperatures added to the fun for both exhibitors and spectators.  WKDZ Morning Ag Report Intern Leslie McGhee was on hand for the show.

The Trigg County Chamber of Commerce celebrated 50 years and presented numerous Small Business Awards Thursday night at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park Convention Center. A few surprise awards were handed out before 2012-2013 Chairman of the Board, Beth Mann, passed the gavel to Theresa Allen and wished her the best in the coming year.

Several people turned out to see local officials starring in the 3rd Annual Trigg County Hospital Foundation Hee Haw Show that took place Saturday, June 22nd, at the Trigg County Schools Cafeteria.  Preliminary figures indicate foundation raised just over 10-thousand dollars before expenses, with final numbers to be released soon.

Volunteer Work Day


What a difference 200 volunteers can make in one day! Volunteers showed up at Lake Barkley State Resort Park at 8 AM to begin painting, removing rotten wood, weed eating, planting, cleaning and working on anything else that needed attention. By noon, LBSRP had started to shine, and the volunteers were only half finished. By the end of the day, it was amazing! Thanks to everyone that came out and made a difference in our community.

We got our "shine on" at Herb Hays Furniture on Saturday. Bill Booth, Cindy Allen Lax and lots of people came out to see the Moonshiners and to take advantage of great deals at Herb Hays Furniture. 

Pass It On Grand Finale


Pass it On ended with the presentation of a gazebo designed by Lori Ricks' engineering students and built by Jodi P'Pool's Trigg County FFA students.  Over 200 people participated in Pass It On Saturday, and the work that was done is phenomenal. The lodge is also now sporting 50 new rocking chairs donated by area residents and businesses.  Enjoy our park.

Early Wednesday, May 8, morning, family and friends welcomed home 160 3rd Brigade Combat Team soldiers.  The plane landed just after midnight, but the excitement from those waiting didn't show the late hour.

Rotary Auction - Final Night


Genesis Express served delicious fish and presented a check to the auction as did Trigg Couny Schools to help reach our goal of $200,000 this year - final totals will be announced Monday. Lots of great items were sold and a packed house was on hand to make it a perfect night. Thanks to everyone that helped make this week a huge success for the High School Seniors and the Senior Citizens of Trigg County.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park hosted the Cadiz Rotary Radio "WJ Hopson" Annual Kick-Off Breakfast Monday with the Trigg County High School Jazz Band providing special entertainment. The Keynote speakers of this year's event, HK Derryberry and Jim Bradford were an inspiration to every single person in attendance. HK, who is blind and has cerebral palsy, has the amazing ability to remember every single detail of his life, and was befriended my Mr. Bradford while he was waiting at the restaurant where his grandmother worked. Their story is fascinating.........if you weren't able to attend the breakfast, you should ask someone who did.

FORT CAMPBELL: 4th Brigade Combat Team Cases Colors


Once again, the 4th Brigade Combat Team, Currahee, cased its colors in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan.  Soldiers are tasked with training the Afghan military to be self-sufficient and Currahee Commander, Colonel Val Keaveny is confident in their abilities.  The 506th Infantry Regiment also conducted a Distinguished and Honorary Member of the Regiment induction.

Kentucky General Assembly 2013 Session Kicks Off


Senators Stan Humphries and Whitney Westerfield officially joined the Kentucky Senate Tuesday January 8th when they joined thirty-six other State Senators and 100 House members in taking the oath office administered by Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton.  The News Edge was in the Senate Chambers for the opening session.

Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander presided over the first Trigg County Fiscal Court meeting Monday January 7, 2013.  Among those on hand for the meeting were Trigg County Sheriff Ray Burnam and recycling trash sculpture winners.

Eagle Cruise on the CQ Princess


WKDZ's Country Club duo took to the water today aboard the CQ Princess yacht. A total of 29 eagles (mostly mature bald eagles) and 1 golden eagle was sighted. The event was hosted by Ky Dam Village and Kenlake State Resort Park.

Three Dead From Hillaire Drive Shooting


Three people are dead following a Saturday morning shooting that occurred at 309 Hillaire Drive in Hopkinsville.  The News Edge was on the scene shortly after police and emergency officials arrived.
