The Trigg County Country Ham Festival will be scaled back in 2013, from a three day event to just two. Participation on day three of the Trigg County Country Ham Festival has steadily declined over the last few years. Sunday attendance has been especially sluggish since the end of the Ham Festival parade a few years ago. Many of the vendors pull out on Saturday night. Ham Festival Committee Chair Thelma Fowler says one of the real problems is that the festival is still advertised as a three-day event.
With the added trouble of keeping Main Street closed to traffic and the expense of a third day of clean-up, the Ham Festival Committee saw no choice but to return to a two-day event. One of the most popular Sunday events will remain unaffected by the new schedule.
Booth prices will also be the same. Fowler believes the shorter festival will be better than ever. She and Main Street Manager Leida Underhill are already working on it.
They're also looking for new options for educational activities and entertainment for kids. Anyone with ideas should call 270-522-8756.
