UK-WKU Series To End This Season

It appears the season opening football game between Kentucky and Western Kentucky will be the last between the two schools for a while. Reports out of Bowling Green say that WKU Athletic Director Todd Stewart says he and UK Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart have agreed to take some time off in the series after this year's contest.

The game in Nashville, is the final game of a four game series that started in 2010 in Lexington. Stewart did go on to say that he hopes discussions will begin in the not to distant future about running the series. Stewart noted the two schools want to allow the conference realignments to shake out, and to resolved the number of conference games that schools will have to play. The SEC has been looking at the possibility of moving up to a nine game conference schedule, which would take away one game of the non-conference portion of Kentucky's schedule.

Western's first ever game against UK came in 2008. The next year, the schools announced a deal that called for two games at Commonwealth Stadium and two in Nashville in alternating years. Western's only win in the series came last year, when the Hilltoppers shocked Kentucky in overtime, 32-31.
