Tubby Smith Fired At Minnesota

CBS Sports was the first to report Monday that former UK basketball coach Tubby Smith had been fired as the head basketball coach at Minnesota. Smith and the Gophers upended UCLA before being eliminated by Florida over the weekend in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gophers went 124-81 in overall play and 46-62 in the Big Ten conference with Smith at the helm over the past six seasons. The Gophers made the NCAA Tournament in three of Smith’s six seasons, however they were knocked out in the first round in 2009 and 2010. The Gophers managed to win 20 or more games in five of the six seasons that Tubby Smith was head coach. Smith resigned at UK to take the Minnesota job after the 2006-2007 season.
